Zelenskyy calls on the US to take action against Putin after Russian drone and missile strikes in Ukraine killed five civilians.

Kyiv: Russia unleashed drones, missiles, and guided aircraft bombs at Ukraine overnight into Sunday, killing at least five civilians and injuring ten more. Russian missiles and around 500 attack drones were launched at areas including Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, and Kirovohrad, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who condemned the strike.

Zelenskyy said his government will “act swiftly and effectively” to eradicate the effects of this attack in the impacted areas while paying respects to those who lost their lives. In order to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine, he also called on the US and Europe to take action against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Today, the Russians once again targeted our infrastructure – everything that ensures normal life for our people,” he wrote on X. “To give this aerial horror no purpose, we need to increase protection and expedite the execution of all defence agreements, particularly those pertaining to air defence. It is conceivable to unilaterally halt air travel, and this is the very thing that would pave the door for genuine diplomatic efforts.

A 15-year-old was one of the victims.
Four of the five victims slain on Sunday were from the Lviv region, officials said. They said that six of them had been injured in Lviv and that one of them was as young as 15. According to the officials, two districts were left without electricity as a result of the strikes, and public transport was also halted for a few hours in those districts.

According to Ukrainian officials, a woman in Zaporizhzhia was killed by the attacks.

Russia strikes a train station in Ukraine
A day after targeting a Ukrainian railway station in Shostka, where it killed a 71-year-old man and injured scores more, Russia launched more drone and missile attacks. Oleksiy Kuleba, the deputy prime minister of Ukraine, claimed that Russia had targeted two Ukrainian trains: one headed for Kyiv and the other for local commuter service.

“Russia launched two attacks close to the Shostka train station. The commuter train comes first. The electric locomotive was struck a second time during the evacuation. A few railway employees and passengers are hurt. In an X post on Saturday, Kuleba said that the adversary was once again attacking infrastructure and people on purpose.
