Rishikesh: A huge controversy broke out in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, when a man allegedly interrupted a singing and dancing audition at a hotel and objected to women’s “western” clothing, calling it “inappropriate” and a “insult” to the city’s culture. Additionally, the alleged video of the Friday incident has gone viral.
But the woman reprimanded the man, asking why he was objecting if their parents were fine. “You should start by addressing the primary problems. Stopping this (audition) will not help you accomplish anything. One of the women said to the man, “Let’s continue doing what we are doing.”
A man who is a part of the Hindu group
The man claimed to be a member of a Hindu group, according to the witnesses. They claimed that he had entered the hotel’s basement audition location without the organisers’ consent.
Police claim they have no knowledge of the incident.
Rishikesh Mayor Shambhu Paswan visited the audition site and reassured the women, but the local government and the Rishikesh Police have denied any knowledge of the incident and have not filed a complaint.
The Lions Club Royal hosted the audition. According to Pankaj Chandani, president of the Rishikesh Lions Club Royal, the club has been holding the audition for the previous five years. “Our organisation engages in public welfare, education, and social initiatives. He added that anyone entering the audition location should have gotten permission from the organisers. “We also fully respect Indian culture and traditions,” he said.
